Government in crunch meeting with donor partners
Government and its development partners including the World Bank will on Monday begin meetings to review support program to the country.
The development partners since the inception of the Multi-Donor Budget Support program (MDBS) have made significant contributions to Ghana’s budget.
It is the Government’s preferred modality in the delivery of aid and has accrued to government close to 2 billion dollars from the donor partners.
Head of Cooperation at the Swiss Embassy which co-chairs the MDBS group, Martin Saladin explains that this week’s review will be thorough and frank with the aim of improving the program.
He was speaking at a recent media interaction with journalists organized by the Swiss Embassy.
“We will look into how the GPRS fared in the past and we will look into the annual progress report; we will look into underlying principles to the donor support in general but to the MDBS specifically," he said.
The meeting will also delve into the micro economic issues including budget discipline and government’s commitment to achieve the Millennium Development Goals
The MDBS allows Government to decide entirely on how to allocate the funds received from Development Partners (DPs) and therefore increases Government’s ownership of the process. Source: Joy Business/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana | | 10th May 2010
